Unless instructed differently by your nurse do not eat, use mints, hard candies, lozenges, chew gum or use chewing tobacco after midnight the evening prior to surgery.

 FOOD/FLUID GUIDELINES FOR ALL PATIENTS

FOOD:

Patients are not allowed to eat after midnight the night before surgery.

FLUIDS:

Adults and children can only have water after midnight and must stop drinking 2 hours before the patient's given arrival time. 

Infants may have breast milk between midnight and 4 hours before the patient's given arrival time.

Infants may have formula between midnight and 6 hours before the patient's given arrival time.

Do not take any medications after midnight, unless instructed to do so by your physician or the surgery center staff. The surgery center staff will give you specific instructions regarding your medication when you receive your arrival call the day prior to surgery.

Failure to follow these guidelines could result in the cancellation of your surgery.
